How Seamless Systems Contribute to Critical Infrastructure: The Case of the New National Heliport of Andorra

Located in the La Caubella area of La Massana, the new National Heliport of Andorra is being established with the aim of centralizing the country’s air activities and strengthening both emergency operations and external connectivity. This infrastructure addresses a long-standing demand from the Principality and becomes a strategic element for boosting mobility, encouraging investment, and improving response capabilities in critical situations.

A project of this nature requires every construction decision to align with the actual conditions of use. The specific mountain climate, the intensity of operations, and the need to maintain the infrastructure fully operational throughout the year made it essential to opt for systems capable of delivering high performance from the outset.

With this approach, Pavistamp participated as the manufacturer of the technical solutions used during the various phases of the project, while Revestamps undertook the specialized application of the seamless systems, ensuring precise execution adapted to the project’s demands.

A Base Prepared to Withstand Maximum Demands

The first step involved preparing the substrate on which the different layers of the system would be applied. In any infrastructure, this phase determines the pavement’s subsequent performance. In a heliport, it becomes even more crucial, as any irregularity can affect the overall stability and durability.

To achieve a completely level surface ready for subsequent finishes, Pantera was used. This is a technical self-leveling mortar developed for applications where mechanical strength and execution time are decisive factors. Its use resulted in a homogeneous base with high load-bearing capacity and excellent adhesion for the subsequent layers of the system. Furthermore, its compatibility with radiant heating systems was particularly suitable for the interior areas of the complex, where such solutions contribute to comfort and the proper functioning of the facilities.

The stability achieved during this phase provides a solid platform for the rest of the construction system. When the substrate maintains uniform conditions, stresses are distributed evenly, and the overall performance of the pavement significantly improves throughout its lifespan.

Protection Against Moisture to Preserve System Performance

Once the base was prepared, the next objective was to protect the infrastructure from one of the main factors of deterioration: the presence of water.

The high-mountain climate conditions necessitate working with solutions capable of resisting frequent precipitation, high humidity levels, and continuous temperature changes. The combined action of these factors can lead to pathologies that compromise pavement stability if waterproofing is not properly integrated from the beginning.

To address this scenario, Pavimper 2C was applied, a system designed to ensure the overall watertightness and protect the substrate from moisture-induced degradation. Its incorporation consolidated a multilayer system prepared to withstand particularly demanding environmental conditions, preserving the pavement’s performance and reducing the risk of future repairs.

This phase represents one of the best examples of how a solution that remains hidden after the work is completed can influence the performance of the entire infrastructure. The waterproofing acts as a permanent protective barrier that directly contributes to extending the system’s lifespan.

Seamless Finishes Adapted to Each Space

With the base prepared and the system protected against moisture, construction advanced to the finishing phase, where each space received a specific solution based on its operational needs.

The hangar, with an area exceeding 800 square meters and the capacity to house up to eight aircraft, required a pavement capable of withstanding intensive use without compromising ease of maintenance. The choice was Decopox in white, a seamless multilayer system offering high mechanical and chemical resistance, facilitating daily cleaning, and providing a completely uniform surface.

The white finish also incorporates a particularly important functional advantage in this type of facility. Its high reflectivity enhances the space’s luminosity and aids in the identification of tools, components, and mechanical elements during maintenance tasks. Thus, the pavement also contributes to creating a more efficient and safer working environment.

The areas designated for offices, reception, control spaces, and customs presented different requirements. In these environments, the goal was to maintain the system’s high technical performance while incorporating an architectural image consistent with the building’s contemporary design.

For this purpose, Redexy in anthracite was selected, a three-component decorative mortar that combines the resistance of industrial flooring with a refined aesthetic and a seamless texture. The result offers high resistance to daily traffic, facilitates maintenance tasks, and maintains a coherent visual identity across all administrative use spaces.

The combination of both systems demonstrates how seamless flooring can adapt to very different functions within the same infrastructure without losing technical or aesthetic coherence.

A Success Story Reflecting the Value of an Integral Solution

The new National Heliport of Andorra is much more than just a new infrastructure for the country. It represents an example of planning where each construction phase has been conceived to ensure the maximum performance of the whole, from substrate preparation to the selection of final finishes.

The work carried out by Pavistamp, along with the specialized application by Revestamps, highlights the importance of working with compatible systems designed to act in concert and meet the demands of a particularly complex environment. The combination of regularization, waterproofing, and seamless coating solutions results in a pavement prepared to withstand high loads, thermal changes, humidity, and intensive use for years.

This project confirms a growing reality in the field of critical infrastructure: durability begins long before the final finish. It is built upon correct planning, the selection of appropriate materials, and execution that respects each stage of the process.

When all these elements work in the same direction, the result transcends the construction itself. The infrastructure gains safety, optimizes maintenance costs, and maintains its performance for longer, offering reliable service from day one.

The National Heliport of Andorra reflects this approach to construction. Each incorporated solution addresses a specific need and contributes to the overall system performance. This integral vision has enabled the development of an infrastructure prepared to face the demands of current air mobility and confidently respond to future challenges. For Pavistamp, it also represents a new success story demonstrating the capability of its seamless systems to add value to projects where quality, resistance, and durability are essential requirements.
